Sleep Doctor’s Take: DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress

With its thick layers of foam and its pocketed coil support core, the DreamCloud Premier Rest provides an impressive balance of comfort and support. We especially recommend this hybrid mattress for side sleepers, who are likely to benefit the most from the pressure relief provided by the Premier Rest’s cushioning layers of memory foam and polyfoam.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress: An Introduction

DreamCloud is a luxury hybrid mattress brand that offers three mattress options: the flagship DreamCloud Mattress, the DreamCloud Premier, and the DreamCloud Premier Rest.

The Premier Rest is DreamCloud’s most high-end model, and at a medium (5) firmness level, it’s also the most plush option. The mattress’ combination of memory foam, polyfoam, and pocketed coils is designed to provide both support and pressure relief.

We’ll discuss the details of the DreamCloud Premier Rest’s performance during our in-house tests of characteristics such as pressure relief, motion isolation, and temperature control. We’ll also take a look at which sleepers might benefit the most from its features so you can decide if it’s the best mattress for you.

How We Review

Our testing team evaluates every mattress in our dedicated sleep lab. We evaluate a variety of important categories of mattress performance, including firmness level, motion isolation, and edge support. This process allows us to provide ratings on a numbered scale to help you find the right fit for your own sleep needs.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress has a soft, cushioning feel with enough underlying support to earn the bed a medium (5) firmness rating. You’ll feel yourself sink lightly and comfortably into the mattress, which can relieve pressure around your shoulders and hips. This pressure relief is particularly noticeable if you’re a side sleeper.

The Premier Rest’s combination of foams and individually wrapped coils makes for a quiet sleeping experience, and you shouldn’t feel much movement from a partner, children, or pets on the other side of the bed. However, the bed may be too plush for those who prefer a firm feel

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Very good pressure relief for side sleepers
  • Breathable materials provide good temperature control
  • Great motion isolation for co-sleepers

Cons

  • Stomach sleepers over 130 pounds may prefer a firmer mattress
  • Foam may make movement difficult for some sleepers
  • 16-inch height may be too tall for some sleepers

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

The DreamCloud Premier Rest ranks as a medium (5) on our 10-point firmness scale. Ideal firmness is up to personal preference, often informed by a person’s body weight and sleep position. However, most people tend to like a mid-range firmness level that hits around four to six on this scale.

Our testers have a range of body weights and sleeping positions, and what we learn from their feedback can help you get an idea of how you might like each mattress we discuss.

Side Sleepers

This mattress was a favorite among our side sleepers, especially those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. The medium feel contours the body, cushioning the hips and shoulders. However, side sleepers over 230 pounds may sink into the mattress a bit too much for comfort.

Back Sleepers

Our testers who sleep on their back generally felt comfortable on the DreamCloud Premier Rest. However, some back sleepers may prefer a slightly firmer mattress in order to get the necessary support in the lumbar area.

Stomach Sleepers

Most stomach sleepers need a firm sleeping surface to prevent their midsection from sinking too far into the mattress. Because of this, stomach sleepers weighing over 130 may find that the DreamCloud Premier Rest is too soft for them. The medium firm (6) DreamCloud Premier could be a better fit.

Our Performance Ratings

We tested several important performance criteria of the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress in our sleep laboratory. Our testers rate performance on a scale of one to five, with 5 being excellent and 1 being poor.

The DreamCloud Premier Rest excels at pressure relief, sleeps cool, and doesn’t transfer much motion, making it a great choice for couples.

Pressure Relief

Rating: 4/5

Our testers found that the DreamCloud Premier Rest’s pillow-top cover and plush foam comfort layers effectively relieved pressure points by contouring to the body’s natural shape. This mattress provides very good cushioning to reduce pressure points and promote spinal alignment, particularly for people who sleep on their side.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 4/5

We were impressed with the Premier Rest’s ability to keep cool. The hybrid design maintains a comfortable temperature for sleepers thanks to its coil-based support core that allows for plenty of airflow through the mattress. The Premier Rest’s cashmere blend cover is designed to wick away heat and further enhance temperature control.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 4/5

The thick foam layers in the Premier Rest isolate motion well, preventing it from spreading from one side of the bed to the other. This motion isolation is further enhanced by the pocketed coils in the support core, which can move individually in response to shifts in position, preventing additional motion transfer. As a result, co-sleepers shouldn’t be too bothered by their partner’s movements.

Edge Support

Rating: 3/5

We found that the thicker coils around the edges of the Premier Rest help to keep the edges of the mattress stable. However, the contouring foam layers compress easily by design, and this is most noticeable near the perimeter of the mattress. Those with mobility issues may want to choose a mattress with firmer edges. But because of its hybrid design, the Premier Rest does provide more usable area than many all-foam beds, which tend to have less robust edge support.

Durability

Rating: 3/5

The Premier Rest’s hybrid construction protects against sagging and the development of body impressions better than many all-foam mattresses. However, like any mattress, its lifespan will be impacted by routine care and the weight of the sleeper using it. In general, we expect this mattress to last for about seven to eight years, which is similar to other hybrid mattresses.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 3/5

Our testers found the Premier Rest’s memory foam and polyfoam comfort layers to be decently responsive. This means that the foam regains its shape quickly once pressure is removed, making it easier to move around on the mattress. The bounce of the coils also helps with movement. However, the thick foam layers do slightly restrict movement, which may make this mattress less comfortable for active sleepers.

Sex

Rating: 3/5

The Premier Rest’s pocketed coil support core provides the bounciness that partners are often looking for when it comes to sex. The coils also allow for good temperature control while making it fairly easy to move on the mattress without making too much noise. The medium (5) firmness also ensures a comfortable surface.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 3/5

When you first receive your DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress, you might notice a slight chemical smell. This is called off-gassing, and it’s a normal byproduct of the manufacturing of the foam used to make mattresses. While off-gassing is generally considered harmless, the smell can be unpleasant to some. Be sure to let your mattress air out in a well-ventilated room until the smell dissipates.

What Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Made Of?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a 16-inch hybrid mattress made of a combination of foam and pocketed coils. A one-inch memory foam layer and one-inch polyfoam layer are quilted into the cashmere blend pillow-top cover. Below these are an inch of soft polyfoam and 3.5 inches of standard polyfoam.

The support core has two components. An 8.5-inch layer of pocketed coils sits on top of one inch of dense polyfoam. There are more robust coils around the perimeter of the mattress in order to reinforce edge support.

All memory foams and polyfoams are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they meet safety and durability standards as determined by a third-party organization.

How Much Does the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Cost?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a luxury mattress with a somewhat higher price-point than other hybrids offered by DreamCloud. That said, the cost reflects a high-quality hybrid design and may be worth the splurge for someone who wants a bed with an excellent balance of comfort and support.

Which DreamCloud Mattress Is Right for You?

The Premier Rest is DreamCloud’s most expensive model. Its main advantages over DreamCloud’s other models are its additional foam and medium (5) firmness, which led the Premier Rest to be favored by our side sleepers under 230 pounds. Both the DreamCloud Mattress and the DreamCloud Premier have a medium firm (6) feel favored by back sleepers and stomach sleepers on our testing team.

While the Premier Rest has a 16-inch profile, the DreamCloud Premier has two fewer inches of polyfoam, making its total height 14 inches. Our testing team found that the Premier may be a better choice for people who sleep on their stomach. The flagship DreamCloud Mattress is the brand’s most affordable option, and our side sleepers over 230 pounds liked it slightly better than the other models.
