Sleep Doctor’s Take: Siena Mattress
The Siena Memory Foam Mattress is an affordable option for shoppers on a budget who want good pressure relief and superior motion isolation. We found that it works well for a wide variety of body types and sleep positions, with the possible exception of stomach sleepers over 230 pounds, who might not get enough support.
Siena Mattress: An Introduction
The Siena is an affordable all-foam mattress that doesn’t skimp on quality. The comfort system includes a layer of gel-infused memory foam and a specially molded transitional layer designed to encourage airflow and keep sleepers cool. The dense polyfoam base helps support and stabilize the mattress.
The Siena costs less than most foam models on the market, and it’s the most affordable offering from parent company Resident Home, whose other mattress brands include Nectar, DreamCloud, and Awara.
We’ll discuss the construction and feel of the Siena, as well as how it performed in our performance tests, to help you decide if it’s the best mattress for you.
How We Review
Our team personally evaluates each mattress using a testing methodology that involves examining each product across a range of criteria. We look at how sleeping position and body weight affect mattress performance, along with other factors like pressure relief, edge support, and temperature neutrality. Our team includes people with a wide range of body types and sleep position preferences so we can determine which mattresses are likely to work best for different kinds of sleepers.
What’s It Like to Sleep on the Siena Mattress?
The Siena’s top layer is made from gel-infused memory foam, which provides significant contouring as it cushions pressure points. This is followed by a polyfoam transitional layer that adds a bit of bounce. The 5.5-inch solid foam core offers flexible support without feeling stiff or too hard, and the mattress’ medium firm (6) feel has broad appeal.
All-foam mattresses are usually very good at isolation motion, and the Siena is no exception, making it a good option for light sleepers and couples who want to avoid disturbing each other with their movements. Offering plenty of sink while still being supportive, the Siena is also a comfortable choice for side and back sleepers, who often develop pressure points at their hips and shoulders.
Siena Mattress Pros and Cons
Pros
- Lower price-point than many other memory foam mattresses
- Good balance between comfort and support
- Memory foam comfort layer absorbs motion well
Cons
- May not provide enough support for people over 230 pounds
- Too soft for many stomach sleepers
- May produce more off-gassing than other mattresses
Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness
We rated the Siena a 6 on our 10-point firmness scale. This score means that it’s neither very soft or overly firm, but somewhere in the middle. Medium firm mattresses have a broader appeal than very firm or soft models.
A person’s sleeping position and body type both affect how a mattress feels. For example, people who sleep on their sides may need a softer mattress with more contouring, especially those who weigh under 130 pounds. Individuals who weigh more than 230 pounds tend to require more support. That’s why our testing team is diverse, representing a variety of sleep styles and bodies.
Overall, our testers reported that the Siena was extremely comfortable and provided the right combination of pressure relief and support. Our side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds were particularly happy with the responsive feel. Back and stomach sleepers under 130 pounds also appreciated the contouring foams. However, testers over 230 pounds, especially stomach sleepers, felt like they sank too far into the mattress.
Siena Mattress Sleeper Ratings
Under 130 lbs. | 130-230 lbs. | Over 230 lbs. | |
---|---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 4/5 | 5/5 | 3/5 |
Back Sleepers | 5/5 | 3/5 | 3/5 |
Stomach Sleepers | 5/5 | 3/5 | 2/5 |
Side Sleepers
Thanks to the Siena’s plush contouring and responsive comfort system, our testers who sleep on their side generally felt comfortable and supported. While testers over 230 pounds would have preferred a little less sinkage, most of our side sleepers found that the mattress had a nice, balanced feel.
Back Sleepers
Most back sleepers need a combination of support and contouring to keep the spine aligned while also preventing pressure points from forming. Most of the back sleepers on our team had a positive experience with the Siena, with those under 130 pounds rating the mattress as excellent. However, some testers over 130 pounds felt they could have used a bit more support.
Stomach Sleepers
Our stomach sleepers under 130 pounds found that the Siena offered a perfect combination of support and comfort. However, those who weigh more than 230 pounds felt that the mattress was not supportive enough, which caused them to sink in too deeply for comfort.
Our Performance Ratings
Whether it’s affordability, comfort, or temperature regulation, everyone prioritizes something when they’re mattress shopping. Our testing team rates specific aspects of each model we review using a 5-point scale. This allows us to offer a broad picture of how the mattress performs in each area.
Pressure Relief
Rating: 4/5
Memory foam mattresses typically offer substantial pressure relief, and we found this to be true of the Siena as well. The plush comfort layer conforms to the body, preventing pressure points from forming, while the polyfoam transitional layer keeps most sleepers from sinking too far into the mattress.
Temperature Neutrality
Rating: 3/5
The Siena’s comfort layer is made from memory foam infused with cooling gel, while the transitional layer beneath it features molded ripples to promote airflow. The breathable polyester blend cover is also designed to keep the sleeper cool.
While it’s common for all-foam mattresses to trap heat, the Siena kept fairly cool during our tests. However, it may not be the best option for hot sleepers or those who prioritize temperature neutrality above other factors.
Motion Isolation
Rating: 4/5
Due to its all-foam construction, the Siena performed very well during our motion isolation tests. Testers were able to move around and get into and out of bed without disturbing each other. This means the Siena is likely a good choice for light sleepers, couples with different schedules, or people who share a bed with kids or pets.
Edge Support
Rating: 3/5
Our team found that the Siena has adequate edge support, but like other foam models, there is some sinkage around the edges. The Siena may not be ideal for people who like to sit on the edge of their mattress or have trouble getting out of bed. Still, because of its medium firm (6) feel and strong support core, the Siena offers better edge support than some other foam options.
Durability
Rating: 3/5
A mattress’ durability is affected by many different factors, including its materials, construction, and how well it’s cared for. This model has a dense polyfoam base to give it strength and stability, and its medium firm (6) feel suggests that it will last about as long as other foam models – around six or seven years.
Ease of Movement
Rating: 3/5
Our testers found that the Siena’s memory foam layer hindered movement to some degree when they tried to turn over or get out of bed. However, the polyfoam transition layer and dense support core did counteract this somewhat, so our team found it easier to move on the Siena than on softer mattresses.
Sex
Rating: 3/5
Many all-foam mattresses lack edge support and limit sleepers’ range of motion, making them less than ideal for sex. While the Siena doesn’t have a reinforced perimeter, it is relatively easy to move on, particularly compared to softer models. The lower cover is also designed to be slip resistant, which can provide more stability for couples.
Off-Gassing
Rating: 3/5
Off-gassing refers to the odor some mattresses release when they are first unpackaged. This is the result of certain manufacturing processes and, although the smell can be unpleasant, it typically dissipates within a few hours.
Memory foam mattresses tend to produce more off-gassing than other kinds of mattresses due to their materials and construction. We did notice a mild odor as the Siena decompressed, but it was fairly comparable to other all-foam mattresses and faded quickly.
What Is the Siena Mattress Made Of?
The Siena Mattress has a polyester blend cover that is non-removable. The comfort layers include a 2.5-inch layer of gel-infused memory foam that is designed to keep the sleeper cool as it conforms to the shape of their body. Beneath it, a denser 2-inch transitional layer of polyfoam provides more responsive support. The polyfoam layer is molded with a ripple pattern designed to promote airflow and prevent body heat from accumulating in the foam.
The mattress’ support core is made from 5.5 inches of dense polyfoam, which is sturdy but flexible enough to allow pairing with an adjustable base. Like all materials in the Siena, it meets CertiPUR-US standards.

Cover Material | Polyester blend |
Comfort Layers | 2.5” gel-infused memory foam 2” polyfoam |
Support Core | 5.5” polyfoam |
How Much Does the Siena Mattress Cost?
The Siena is more affordable than many other all-foam models, costing around half of what some manufacturers charge for similar memory foam mattresses. Despite the lower price-point, the Siena still offers several cooling technologies along with the significant pressure relief and motion isolation of a high-quality memory foam mattress.
