Sleep Doctor’s Take: Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress

A quilted Euro-top gives the Premier Copper Hybrid robust pushback and a moderate hug. Its effective design relieves pressure points and promotes spinal alignment, helping maintain posture across sleep positions. Combination sleepers, couples, and those who tend to toss and turn should benefit from the mattress’ consistent comfort and support.

Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress: An Introduction

Delivering high-quality performance at a reasonable cost, Nectar Sleep has become one of the more recognizable mattress brands in the marketplace.

Sleepers can choose from a lineup of six Nectar mattresses, including three all-foam and three hybrid options. Both the all-foam and hybrid collections have a classic, Premier, and Premier Copper model.

We take a closer look at the Premier Copper Hybrid, Nectar’s upgraded hybrid model, to help you decide if it’s a good choice for you.

How We Review

Our team of sleep product experts, who reflect a wide range of sleep positions and body types, test each of the mattresses we review. We then translate the results into mattress ratings that you can use to help you choose a mattress that best meets your individual needs.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid?

The Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid has a classic mix of comfort and support that makes it a good fit for most sleepers. While the mattress’ feel is on the firmer side, the effect is tempered by a 2-inch layer of memory foam, giving side sleepers just enough cushioning to prevent pressure points from forming. The Premier Copper Hybrid is particularly comfortable for back and stomach sleepers, who benefit from the firm (7) feel and pushback from the coil core.

Pros

  • A good fit for most sleeper types
  • Reduces pressure points and promotes alignment
  • Maintains consistent support as sleepers move

Cons

  • Cooling technology may not offset all body heat buildup
  • May be too firm for sleepers who want deeper contouring
  • Requires a fitted sheet designed for high-profile beds

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

Ideal mattress firmness varies between individuals, but some general guidelines can help point shoppers in the right direction. Side sleepers and those under 130 pounds typically prefer softer mattresses, while people over 130 pounds as well as back and stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses.

Our team rated the Premier Copper Hybrid as 7 on our 10-point firmness scale. This firm rating is based on the experience of our testers that represent a range of sleep positions and body types.

Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Sleeper Ratings

Under 130 lbs.130-230 lbs.Over 230 lbs.
Side Sleepers3/53/55/5
Back Sleepers4/55/54/5
Stomach Sleepers4/54/53/5

Side Sleepers

The Premier Copper Hybrid was comfortable but a bit firm for our side sleepers weighing less than 230 pounds, who preferred a softer sleep surface and deeper contouring. However, the mattress received excellent marks from our side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds. These testers appreciated the extra support and gently conforming comfort system.

Back Sleepers

Overall, our back-sleeping testers were very impressed with the Premier Copper Hybrid. It was particularly effective for testers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds. All of our back sleepers were impressed with the mattress’ exceptional support and the sturdy comfort system, which prevented them from sinking too deep into the mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

For stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 pounds, the Premier Copper Hybrid delivered above-average performance. Testing indicated it provided sufficient comfort to relieve pressure buildup and enough pushback to maintain alignment. However, stomach sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds gave the mattress average scores, as these sleepers wanted less hug from the Euro-top and more targeted support.

Our Performance Ratings

Our testers rated the Premier Copper Hybrid across eight key sleep categories using a five-point scale, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent.

Pressure Relief

Rating: 4/5

Our testers found that the Premier Copper Hybrid offered above-average pressure relief with 2 inches of plush memory foam. A layer of high-density polyfoam provides support and helps prevent sleepers from sinking too deeply into the mattress. Both layers are underscored by a responsive transitional layer that quickly adjusts to changes in position to help reduce pressure points and improve alignment.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 3/5

With two cooling technologies built into its Euro-top, the Premier Copper Hybrid is designed to reduce heat buildup. Copper and polyethylene fibers are designed to draw heat away from the body for a cool-to-the-touch cover. Our testers found that the mattress’ 5-inch foam comfort system, even with its relatively moderate hug, still tended to trap some heat.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 4/5

Although the support core features bouncy springs, our testers noted the foam layers offset this and helped trap movement. Compared to the slimmer comfort layers in the Premier Hybrid, the extra inch of memory foam helps absorb position changes and keeps vibrations to a minimum. Sleepers who are easily disturbed when their partner shifts in bed should appreciate the Premier Copper Hybrid’s above-average motion isolation capabilities.

Edge Support

Rating: 4/5

Even with additional memory foam quilted into the Euro-top, the Premier Copper Hybrid’s reinforced perimeter provided enough sturdiness to maintain its shape under pressure. This allowed our testers to roll to the edge and sit comfortably without the edge sinking beneath them.

Durability

Rating: 3/5

While more expensive mattress brands often use components and techniques designed for longevity, the Premier Copper Hybrid offers high-quality materials and construction and a competitive price-point. Mattress lifespans vary by use and maintenance, but we expect the Premier Copper Hybrid to last for about seven to eight years, which is the average lifespan of a hybrid.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 4/5

Our testers were able to shift positions easily without feeling stuck. While hindered somewhat by the thicker memory foam layer, the support core offers plenty of responsiveness, and the transition layer bounces back quickly after weight is removed.

Sex

Rating: 3/5

The Premier Copper Hybrid’s springy coils and firmer feel complement sexual activity. However, a thicker layer of memory foam in the comfort layer can trap body heat and permit couples to sink too deeply into the surface, making it more difficult to switch positions easily.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 3/5

Our team noticed average off-gassing in the Premier Copper Hybrid. The main culprit of off-gassing is foam that releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the tiny particles that are responsible for that noticeable new mattress smell. The smell is considered harmless and should dissipate within a few days. The Premier Copper Hybrid’s foam is also CertiPUR-US certified, indicating it’s low in chemical emissions.

What Is the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Made Of?

The Premier Copper Hybrid begins with a quilted Euro-top cover infused with Microban antimicrobial protection, which is engineered to ward off bacteria. The cover is also infused with copper and polyethylene fibers, which are designed to draw heat away from the sleeper.

Two inches of memory foam and 2 inches of ActiveLift high-density polyfoam are quilted into the cover. A 1-inch transition layer of dense polyfoam provides additional support and prevents sleepers from sinking too deeply into the surface.

The support core features individually wrapped 8-inch coils with reinforced edges composed of thicker springs to extend the sleepable area. An ActiveSupport polyfoam base layer creates a stable foundation.

The foams used in the Premier Copper Hybrid are all CertiPUR-US certified low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and free of harmful substances.
