Titan Mattress: Our Verdict

The Titan Plus Mattress is a strong and durable mattress built to support sleepers over 230 pounds. Its solid construction allows sleepers to relax into its pliant comfort layers without too much sinkage. The pocketed coils in the support core encourage airflow to reduce heat buildup during sleep.

While our team found that the Titan Plus is an excellent choice for sleepers over 230 pounds, it is also relatively comfortable for those weighing between 130 and 230 pounds. However, those weighing less than 130 pounds would probably benefit from a softer mattress that provides more contouring.

Titan Mattress: An Introduction

The Titan Plus by Brooklyn Bedding is one of the brand’s two hybrid mattresses designed for sleepers over 230 pounds. Sold exclusively online, the Titan Plus Mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial and a 10-year limited warranty.

The comfort system includes 2 inches of polyfoam and 1 inch of gel-infused memory foam to provide a balance of cushioning and support. The support core is made of 6-inch pocketed coils on top of a 2-inch polyfoam base. This construction is also designed to allow for airflow, helping to prevent overheating. Sleepers can choose to add an optional cooling cover intended to further enhance the mattress’ temperature-regulating capabilities.

We’ll discuss what it’s like to sleep on the Titan Plus Mattress, as well as its construction and our performance during our testing in categories ranging from temperature regulation to pressure relief.

How We Review

Our diverse product testing team conducted hands-on research to determine the Titan Plus Mattress’ performance in a variety of categories. These include areas such as pressure relief, sex, temperature regulation, and durability.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the Titan Mattress?

The Titan Plus Mattress is designed to gently cradle sleepers while maintaining the benefits of a sturdy support system. The quilted cotton cover is stitched with gel-infused memory foam to give the surface of the bed a plush and cool feel. The comfort system’s layer of TitanFlex polyfoam allows for mild contouring without sacrificing support.

While our testers found that the mattress meets the needs of sleepers over 230 pounds, those less than 130 pounds may find it too firm. These sleepers typically require more cushioning than what the Titan Plus Mattress offers, which means they may be more comfortable on the collection’s softer model, the Titan Plus Luxe.

Titan Mattress Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Contouring memory foam provides pressure relief without excessive sinkage
  • Gel-infused memory foam and pocketed coils limit noise and enable airflow
  • Durable materials, including steel coils and high-density foams, offer excellent support for sleepers over 230 pounds

Cons

  • The firm (8) feel may not be suited for sleepers under 130 pounds
  • Only available for purchase online
  • Optional GlacioTex cooling Cover didn’t significantly reduce heat buildup in our tests

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

The Titan Plus is a firm (8) mattress based on our 10-point scale, which ranges from extra soft (1) to extra firm (9-10). Although the mattress has limited give, our testers considered diverse weights and sleeping positions and found that it contours sufficiently to be comfortable for side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers over 230 pounds.

Firmness is one of several important factors when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Preferences, body weight, and sleeping position can also have an impact. For instance, side sleepers under 130 pounds tend to find medium firm (6) to firm (7-8) mattresses more comfortable, while sleepers over 230 pounds often prefer firm (7-8) mattresses.

Side Sleepers

We found that the Titan Plus worked well for side sleepers over 230 pounds. The firm feel kept our testers from sinking in too deeply, while the slight cushioning helped reduce pressure on the hips and shoulders. However, side sleepers under 230 pounds will likely prefer a softer type of mattress that can better prevent spinal misalignment for that body type.

Back Sleepers

Our back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds reported that the Titan Plus provided adequate support and cushioning for the lower back. Back sleepers over 230 were even more comfortable. However, our back sleepers under 130 pounds reported that the Titan Plus was too firm.

Stomach Sleepers

Based on our tests, stomach sleepers over 230 pounds are the most likely to appreciate the bed’s balance of support and slight cushioning. Our stomach sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds also felt comfortable on the Titan Plus, but those under 130 pounds felt that it was too firm.

Our Performance Ratings

Our experienced product testing team evaluated the Titan Plus for several performance metrics according to a 5-point scale ranging from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent).

Pressure Relief

Rating: 3/5

The Titan Plus provides adequate pressure relief for sleepers over 130 pounds, who tend to sink more deeply into the foam comfort system. Testers over 230 experienced the greatest balance of support and cushioning in areas such as their shoulders and lumbar region.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 4/5

The Titan Plus offers very good temperature neutrality, which refers to the mattress’ ability to keep sleepers from overheating. The mattress’ hybrid structure, including its individually wrapped coils and gel-infused memory foam, provides ample airflow and helps the mattress remain cool throughout the night. The optional GlacioTex Cooling Cover adds an extra layer of coolness that may be a good option for people who tend to sleep hot.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 4/5

The Titan Plus’ construction prevents most motion transfer, meaning that co-sleepers shouldn’t bother each other when they change positions. Each steel coil in the support core is individually wrapped to ensure that movement on some of the coils doesn’t impact the rest of the mattress. The memory foam layer also absorbs motion well, further reducing the chances of movement transferring across the bed’s surface.

Edge Support

Rating: 4/5

The Titan Plus’ individually wrapped steel coils and firm foam layers offer robust edge support. Our testing team found that the thick support core, which accounts for most of the bed’s height, further reinforces the mattress’ sides, lessening the likelihood that the edges will sag excessively under pressure.

Durability

Rating: 4/5

While the specific longevity of a mattress can be hard to pin down, our testers expect the Titan Plus to last for about seven to eight years. The Titan Plus contains high-quality, durable materials, which contribute to a long lifespan for a hybrid. The mattress’ patented memory foam is also designed to deter impressions and indentations.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 4/5

Sleepers on our team had no problem moving on the Titan Plus, meaning the mattress is likely to be a good fit for active sleepers. The 2-inch TitanFlex polyfoam layer is responsive enough to allow most sleepers to change positions and get into and out of bed without experiencing the “stuck” feeling often associated with foam.

Sex

Rating: 3/5

Thanks to its motion isolation and quiet construction, the Titan Plus is a good choice for sex. Above-average edge support gives couples more usable surface area, and the mattress’ construction allows for good responsiveness and bounce. Additionally, the gel-infused foam in the comfort layer, combined with the individually wrapped coils in the support core, helps keep the mattress cool.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 3/5

The Titan Plus is wrapped in plastic and shipped in a box. Because it contains foam and is packaged soon after being built, the Titan Plus package off-gasses some volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a byproduct of the manufacturing process. Although VOCs aren’t generally considered dangerous, they may cause an unpleasant odor, especially right after the mattress is removed from the box. The odor should dissipate in time.

What Is the Titan Mattress Made Of?

The Titan Plus Mattress is a firm (8) hybrid mattress featuring an 11-inch profile and four distinct layers. The top layer is a plush 1-inch cotton knit cover, quilted with gel-infused memory foam designed to feel plush and reduce heat retention. Sleepers also have the option of adding an additional GlacioTex Cooling Cover, intended to further improve the mattress’s cooling capabilities.

Under the cover is a 2-inch layer of TitanFlex polyfoam, Brooklyn Bedding’s trademark material that contours to the body while maintaining responsiveness. The mattresses’ third layer is the support core, which is made of individually wrapped, 6-inch TitanCaliber coils. The final layer is a 2-inch high-density foam base that increases the bed’s longevity while reinforcing its support core.

How Much Does the Titan Mattress Cost?

The price-point of the Titan Plus is at the lower end of average when it comes to the cost of hybrid mattresses. This makes it a bargain for shoppers looking for a sturdy and long lasting mattress. Total cost varies depending on size and whether or not shoppers opt to include the optional cooling cover.

Which Titan Mattress Is Right for You?

Titan offers two models: the Titan Plus and the Titan Plus Luxe. Both designed for the needs and comfort of sleepers over 230 pounds.

Similar to the Titan Plus, the Luxe model is a hybrid that combines a sturdy coil support core with a comfort system composed of TitanFlex polyfoam and a quilted cover with gel-infused memory foam.

The Titan Plus Luxe uses a softer version of the company’s TitanFlex polyfoam, giving it a medium firm (6) feel. Because of its softer construction, our testers found that the Titan Plus Luxe is a better fit for those who need a little more cushioning, particularly sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds.
