Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress: Our Verdict
Memory foam hybrids are popular for their pressure relief and durability. Unfortunately, many models tend to be on the pricier side. This isn’t the case with the Silk & Snow Hybrid, an eco-friendly mattress with an approachable price tag. The Canadian-made mattress combines responsive foams with a pocketed coil core. The result: a moderate body hug that doesn’t inhibit movement.
Hot sleepers can benefit from the mattress’ innovative cooling features. Silver and gel infusions are designed to dissipate heat, while the pocketed coil core promotes airflow. The high-density memory foam is more breathable than softer varieties since it doesn’t conform as closely to the body.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid offers maximum surface area for couples, thanks to its reinforced perimeter. Co-sleepers should also enjoy fewer disturbances since the pocketed coils limit motion transfer.
The mattress’ balanced medium firm (6) feel accommodates a range of sleep preferences. Budget-conscious shoppers who don’t want to sacrifice quality should consider the Silk & Snow Hybrid.
Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress: An Introduction
Silk & Snow is a Canadian bedding company that emphasizes locally sourced, sustainable materials. Silk & Snow currently offers three mattresses: the S&S Mattress, the S&S Hybrid, and the S&S Organic Mattress. All are affordable luxury models.
This review focuses on the S&S Hybrid, a medium firm (6) mattress with a 12-inch height. The hybrid combines dense memory foam and a zoned coil core to balance pressure relief and support. We discuss its construction and compatibility with different sleep styles to help you decide if it’s the right fit.
How We Review
Each mattress we review undergoes rigorous in-house testing. Our sleep specialists use physical testing and advanced tools to evaluate pressure relief, temperature control, durability, and more. The team includes testers with different body sizes and preferred sleep positions in order to understand a mattress’ all-around performance. We share this insight to help readers choose the best mattress for their needs.
What’s It Like to Sleep on the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress?
The Silk & Snow Hybrid blends moderate contouring with sturdy support. A polyfoam comfort layer evenly conforms to sleepers, promoting good sleep posture. Dense memory foam below cushions pressure points while sustaining heavier body parts. Both layers include gel infusions intended to reduce heat retention.
A zoned coil core is firmer in the center section to encourage spine alignment. The coils compress more beneath the shoulders and legs to prevent pressure buildup. Each pocketed coil moves on its own, which limits surface vibrations. A reinforced foam perimeter minimizes sagging along the edges.
A balanced medium firm (6) suits a range of sleepers, but we found the mattress performs best for side and back sleepers. The S&S Hybrid is also ideal for those who like a cradling feel that doesn’t restrict movement.
Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Pros and Cons
Pros
- A blend of contouring and bounce
- High-density memory foam balances pressure relief with support
- Above-average temperature control
Cons
- Stomach sleepers over 130 pounds may experience deep sinkage
- Less body-hugging feel than some memory foam hybrids
- Excess sagging can occur for back sleepers over 230 pounds
Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness
How solid or plush a mattress feels depends on its firmness level. We use a 10-point scale to rate mattress firmness, with 1 being the softest and 10 the most firm.
It’s important to note that firmness is relative to body size: the more a person weighs, the more they sink into a mattress. A medium (5) mattress might be too soft for someone over 230 pounds, yet plenty firm for a person under 130 pounds.
Each sleep position also has different firmness needs. Side sleepers generally prefer a softer mattress with notable contouring. Back and stomach sleepers require a firmer design to support the torso area.
Our S&S Hybrid ratings take into account the relationship between body weight and sleep position.
Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Ratings
Under 130 lbs. | 130-230 lbs. | Over 230 lbs. | |
---|---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 3/5 | 5/5 | 3/5 |
Back Sleepers | 3/5 | 4/5 | 2/5 |
Stomach Sleepers | 3/5 | 2/5 | 2/5 |
Side Sleepers
The mattress’ medium firm feel performed well for our side sleepers across all weight groups. The upper polyfoam layer allowed enough sink to ease pressure points on the hips and shoulders. High-density memory foam boosted pressure relief while encouraging a straighter spine. The sturdy pocketed coil core kept the hips from sinking lower than the shoulders.
Back Sleepers
A balanced feel and moderate contouring promoted good sleep posture for most of our back sleepers. The zoned pocketed coil core provided ample lumbar support for back sleepers under 230 pounds, but those weighing more experienced some sinkage around the hips.
Stomach Sleepers
Overall, our testers who prefer stomach sleeping were the least impressed with the S&S Hybrid. The comfort layers allowed the midsection to sink excessively, creating an overly curved spine. Our testers under 130 pounds were the exception, since they naturally don’t sink as much. The medium firm feel was sturdy enough to keep the shoulders and hips level for these sleepers.
Our Performance Ratings
We rate mattress features like pressure relief and ease of movement using a five-point scale. A “1” rating is considered poor, while “5” is excellent.
It’s a rare mattress that excels in all performance areas. Knowing which features matter the most to you can help narrow your search.
Pressure Relief
Rating: 3/5
The S&S Hybrid offers cushioning and spinal support to prevent pressure buildup for most sleeper types. . The bed’s plush quilted polyfoam cover and 2-inch memory foam layer evenly contour sleepers for better weight distribution. The zoned pocketed coil core helps the spine stay level by reinforcing the lumbar region.
Pressure relief might be suboptimal for back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds. They’re more likely to experience deep sinkage, resulting in poor sleep posture.
Temperature Neutrality
Rating: 4/5
Close-contouring memory foam can trap heat, but this shouldn’t be an issue with the S&S Hybrid. It uses high-density memory foam, which doesn’t overly conform to sleepers. A gel layer and cooling cover are engineered to draw out excess body heat. The pocketed coils in the beds support layer also encourage airflow, which further aids in dispersing heat.
Motion Isolation
Rating: 3/5
Both foam layers in the S&S Hybrid absorb a good amount of motion, so the mattress shouldn’t undulate each time you move. While the pocketed coil core increases bounce, the individually wrapped coils do inhibit motion transfer. A mattress that isolates motion well is typically quieter, which is appealing if you share a bed.
Edge Support
Rating: 4/5
The mattress has sturdy edge support, thanks to a reinforced foam perimeter. Its density minimizes deep sinkage if you sleep or sit near the sides of the mattress. Robust edges also give co-sleepers more surface area to spread out on.
Durability
Rating: 3/5
A mattress’ lifespan depends on many factors, including usage, co-sleepers, and body weight. That said, we expect the S&S Hybrid to perform well for at least seven to eight years. The mattress uses relatively dense foams, which don’t deteriorate as fast as softer varieties. Its sturdy pocketed coil core and reinforced perimeter also minimize premature sagging.
Ease of Movement
Rating: 4/5
Like most hybrids, sleepers shouldn’t have difficulty adjusting positions on the S&S Hybrid. Dense and responsive foams keep sleepers more mobile by limiting sinkage. The bouncy pocketed coil core and medium firm feel also aid movement. A responsive surface especially makes position changes more comfortable for combination sleepers and people over 230 pounds.
Sex
Rating: 3/5
The mattress has many performance features that are useful during sex. Its responsive surface facilitates movement while still offering solid traction. Pressure-relieving memory foam makes holding positions more comfortable. Various cooling features stave off distracting heat buildup.
Off-Gassing
Rating: 3/5
Off-gassing odors are typical with foam bedding products because of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These tiny particles are a byproduct of foam manufacturing and sometimes release odors when a mattress is new. Fortunately, off-gassing odors eventually dissipate.
Since the S&S Hybrid uses CertiPUR-US certified foams, off-gassing is fairly mild. The certification shows that materials meet strict guidelines for indoor VOC emissions.
What Is the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Made Of?
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is a four-layer construction measuring 12 inches thick. A polyester-spandex cover contains silver infusions designed to curb bacterial growth. A 1-inch layer of polyfoam is quilted within the cover for added plushness.
Next is 2 inches of dense memory foam which cushions sleepers without permitting deep sinkage. Both foam layers have gel infusions engineered to dissipate heat.
The support core consists of durable, double tempered pocketed steel coils. Each coil is encased in fabric to reduce motion transfer. The zoning off the coils promotes spinal alignment. High-density polyfoam along the perimeter boosts edge support.
Silk & Snow sources its materials from local, eco-minded manufacturers. The foam is made with natural seed-based oils, for example. All of the foams in the S&S Hybrid are CertiPUR-US certified, showing they are free of heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They also meet stringent criteria for low VOC emissions.

Which Silk & Snow Mattress Is Right for You?
While the Silk & Snow Hybrid is a popular mattress, shoppers may want to consider one of the company’s other models. For sleepers who prefer a closer contour, the Silk & Snow Mattress is an all-foam model with a medium (5) feel. The softer surface is an especially good fit for sleepers under 130 pounds, as they need extra cushioning to relieve tension.
